Athletes from the NFL, NBA and around the sporting world have weighed in a lot over the last few weeks on US President Donald Trump, specifically to do with his thoughts around NFL players kneeling in the National Anthem and the Golden State Warriors not wanting to attend the White House.
Last week, LeBron James tweeted that Trump was a “bum” but Australian rookie Ben Simmons has gone one better, calling Trump a “d*ckhead” when asked about his thoughts on the President by Fox Sports Australia.
“I think he’s an idiot,” Simmons said to Fox Sports at the Philadelphia 76ers’ media day.
“If we were in Australia right now, a lot of people would call him a d*ckhead, and that’s how I personally feel.”
Simmons went on to discuss his thoughts on Trump’s comments around NFL players’ silent protests during the US Anthem.
“Some of the comments he’s just made about players, the NFL, the anthem. Everyone respects America, and everyone thinks America is a great country, but he’s the wrong person to be in charge of it.
“I think, as a man, you’re not supposed to be tweeting like that, saying remarks about women, what people should be doing, how you talk to leaders of other countries, and putting America in a situation where it doesn’t need to be like that.”
Simmons, a duel USA-Australian citizen who has lived in the United States for a number of years now, attending high school in Florida before heading to LSU for college continued that he feels Trump is the wrong person to be leading the United States right now.
“He just brings more anger and hatred to the U.S. It’s unneeded,” Simmons said.
“I think the U.S. is a great country. I love being here. I’m very appreciative of the job I’m in. I think he’s the wrong person to be in charge. He’s definitely not a leader.”
