With the Boston Celtics holding the no.1 pick for the upcoming NBA draft, highly-touted prospect Markelle Fultz is well and truly on the radar, even though they already have one of the league’s best point guards in Isaiah Thomas.
With many expecting Fultz to go at no.1, there is the always awkward situation of your employer hiring your replacement, but not for the Celtics.
Thomas revealed that Fultz has already reached out to him to ask about the Celtics organisation, with I.T. saying he is more than comfortable at the idea of sharing the backcourt with the 18 year-old.
“He asks questions; I answer them,” Thomas told ESPN’s Chris Forsberg. “He’s a good friend of mine. If it happens, we’ll figure out how to play together. If not, we’ll go from there.”
“He’s excited,” Thomas added. “I mean, he obviously doesn’t know where he’s going, but … he’s excited about the opportunity.”
Earlier this week Fultz said he had no doubt the former Washington Huskies could thrive in a backcourt together.
“Me and Isaiah Thomas would be a great backcourt. I think the opportunity that would be there would be amazing,” Fultz said. “For him to play off the ball, where I think he’s better at it, or him to play on ball and I can play off the ball, I think the chemistry would be amazing.”
The lottery takes place 23 June AEDT.
