The Golden State Warriors today unveiled their new alternative sleeve jersey. The team will become the first NBA Franchise in the modern era to play in a jersey other than a singlet.
The idea for the jersey came about after the 2011 adidas pitch about the next era of basketball uniforms. Warriors co-owner Peter Gruber loved it & started looking into seeing how soon they could bring the uniforms to the hardwood.
“I went ‘Wow!’ ” Guber said. “It was a very profound change. And I think Adidas presenting it to us and giving us the option to be the first one to do this demonstrates our willingness to be inventive.”
The new technology has been named the “adizero NBA short sleeve uniform system” & is maded from 60% recycled material.
According to the San Jose Mercury:
“The uniforms are 26 percent lighter than their traditional counterparts, which Adidas said its research revealed was most important to players. They come with the ever-popular moisture-absorbing feature. The sleeves are made with stretch fabric that wraps 360 degrees around the shoulder to ensure full range of motion, because anyone who has played basketball knows how a T-shirt’s sleeve can interfere with a jumper.
The shorts — which have pinstripes inspired by the Bay Bridge — have been modernized, too. The stretch woven fabric, pricked with thousands of holes, make the bottoms as lightweight and airy as ever.”
The jersey is being viewed as the next step in the basketball jersey revolution. Players seem to have no problems to it in the testing phase, it will be interesting to see how the Warriors feel about playing with them during an in-game situation. It also still remains to be seen if fans will approve of the change.
Personally, I really like the look of them… However, it remains to be seen if some of the NBA’s most influential bicept tattooed players such as Kobe Bryant & every single player remaining in the NBA from the 2008-09 Denver Nuggets will like to have their art hidden by adidas.
The Warriors will wear their new uniforms for the first time on the 22nd February vs the San Antonio Spurs, then will also wear them on the 8th March vs Houston & the 15th March vs Chicago.
